Canada Youth 2006
My CY06 experience was AMAZING!
CYO6 was an experience that I will never forget. I will never forget the atmosphere, and by that I mean the smiles that I got from everyone, the loads of laughter every day and the love and support from total strangers and the great friendships I made.
The atmosphere at CY was great; you could never turn a corner without looking into someone's eyes and smiling. The love and support of CY06 is something that will stay with me in my heart. Each and everyone came from different parts of Canada not knowing anyone, and by the end there were tears of sadness because we did not want to leave. The love that was received during the week was totally amazing!! On the way up to CY06, I was extremely nervous and yet 30 minutes into the week, I was no longer nervous. I knew that I was loved; I knew that I was accepted and I knew that it would be a life-changing event! The love was felt when we went to register, when we had to leave our bags with personal belongings in another person's care for a few minutes. These may not seem big, but when you have no idea who this person is, then it is a big thing. Yet, at CY06 you knew that someone would watch it for you.
Some of the participants at CY got to make some "special trips". I was one of those participants. Our "special trips" were to the hospital. A few people got sick. A few of us had minor injuries. Yeah, it was a bit of a drag to be sitting in a hospital bed while the rest of your friends were at Brock University having a great time. However, the love you got while sitting there was unbelievable. I was amazed. I thought, "Oh great, sit here for hours to be told, "You're fine. Go home and rest." That was not the case. The case was go and sign in and do all of the paper work and laugh and have a good time. Yes, have a good time at the hospital! When I was there I played so many games and talked about things that made me laugh. I was having so much fun I almost forgot where I was. I think that it was the best hospital trip that I have ever made and will ever make. When, I returned, I was crushed to pieces with hugs. Everyone was so glad to see me back.
The last thing that I will never forget is the friendships: friendships that have grown stronger, new friendships, reuniting with old friends and working on friendships. Everyone needs a special friend. Well, thanks to CY06, I have found my special friend. I never thought that I would see the day that I would write a letter to a friend out in B.C. I never thought I would see the day where I would cry for hours on end because I don't know when the next time I will see this person.
That is what CY06 is all about for me. There was so much more but when you ask me what CY06 was all about this is my answer! I sure hope that in three years, more people will have the chance to have a life changing experience. I would personally like to thank everyone who made it possible for me and many others to have this chance in life. My CY06 experience was AMAZING!

CY06 Youth Ministry Training Track
What an experience to attend the Youth Ministry Training Track at CY06. If you ever needed a place to get excited about Youth Ministry, and share experiences with others involved in Youth Ministry from all across Canada, Brock University in July 2006 was the place to be! We had the opportunity of plenary sessions lead by experts in youth ministry, such as Roger Nishioka, Spence Edwards, Dorothy Henderson, Andy Tibodeau, Hugh Donnelly, Rev Gwen Brown just to name a few. What a great opportunity that was! We attended a variety of workshops such as Youth Ministry without a Youth Group, Youth Councils, All Aboard, Dare to Care, Let's Talk About Sex, Drugs & Rock & Roll and I could go on and on. By attending the plenary sessions and workshops it was a wonderful opportunity to share ideas, get rejuvenated in spirit, mind and body, learn to play, meet others also involved in youth ministry. You couldn't help but feel the presence of God's spirit working amongst the people attending. It was a great feeling being with all these wonderful adults who want to help our youth in sharing their faith journeys with them. Our youth today will be the churchgoers and leaders of tomorrow.
We came away with a lot of great ideas to take back to our home congregations on the many ways of involving and keeping our youth interested within the church. We came away with making new friends and networking with other churches. What a great experience for the body, mind and soul.
Peace be with you.
